Silver ladies are the priestesses of Selûne, Our Lady of Silver, the moon goddess. They are women devoted to the worship of the moon, and spreading peace, safety, comfort, and healing across the Realms. Most live out their lives in their nunneries and cloisters, but some undertake sacred quests or become itinerants roving the land in their goddess' name.
Silver ladies advance in saving throws as clerics, by two points every four levels of experience, and in attack throws as mages, by two points every six levels of experience. At first level, silver ladies hit an unarmored foe (AC 0) with an attack throw of 10+. They are trained to fight with clubs, daggers, darts, and staves, and can fight wielding a weapon two-handed. They cannot wear armor or use shields. Silver ladies can use magic items usable by clerics.
Starting at 1st level (Called), silver ladies may cast divine spells as standard clerics. They have the ability to turn undead, just as standard clerics. When a silver lady reaches 5th level (Silverbrow), she may begin to research spells, scribe scrolls, and brew potions as a cleric. At 9th level (Silver Lady), she is able to create more powerful magic items such as weapons, rings, and staffs. At 11th level, a silver lady may learn and cast rituals spells of great power (6th and 7th level), and craft magical constructs such as golems and animated statues.
Silver ladies must follow a code of conduct: in addition to nightly prayers and helping the needy, they must take strict vows. They must not countenance the undead to exist, or propagate their existence. Further vows vary by order, requiring either pacifism (never taking a human or demi-human life, and attempting to save lives whenever possible), poverty (donating everything except what they need for the upkeep of themselves and their followers to charity or temples), or chastity (forswearing love and sex). They must not be Chaotic.
Upon attaining 9th level (Silver Lady), a silver lady may establish or build a stronghold called a cloister. If the silver lady has had a good and noble adventuring career, the silver lady of her current cloister will pay for up to 100% of the construction costs of a modest cloister. The new cloister will usually remain a branch of the older cloister until the silver lady reaches 12th level, at which time it will become independent. A silver lady who founds a cloister will be joined by 1d2×10 1st level silver ladies and 1d6×30 normal women who want to become silver ladies. Every year 80% of the previous year's trainees will leave in frustration or find they lack the discipline for a life of faith, and 1d6×20 normal women will come in to replace them. A normal woman in training typically takes 2 years to become a 1st level silver lady.
